bookshelves: fantastic, loved-it

I absolutely loved this book, although the ending was abrupt and left me frustrated. If I didn't already have the next book, I'm quite sure I would be quite pissed off. To be quite honest, I know the author wants people to read her next book in the series but I hate the sudden cliffhangers that end mid-scene.

This book was a surprise, for the fact that Feast of Fools fell short to my expectations. I finished it in a matter of hours and enjoyed every minute of it. I loved that Claire started standing up to Monica and not being all innocent with a huge conscience battling her. Shane was also surprisingly mature and was able to control himself much more. Surprisingly, none of the characters annoyed me perpetually in this book unlike the rest in the series. In fact, I'm very glad that the series started improving from the 3rd book onwards.

Bishop is like no other antagonist we've seen. If you thought Oliver was bad, you'd be in for a surprise. Bishop gave me the creeps and I actually felt scared for the characters. Also, I think Gramma Day needs more scenes!

What I didn't like was the fact that in mid of a crisis, Claire was in her room and actually tried to study. Really? Study? If I was in the middle of a crisis, I would be racking my brains on how to save myself and others rather than solve math problems. That scene just absolutely didn't make sense to me. Also, can anyone else sense Shane and Claire's sexual tension exploding? I know she's almost seventeen and all that, but hell, supposedly they would die any minute now and Shane still cares about a bloody promise.

In all, this book is currently the best out of the five I've read so far. It's full of non-stop action that was easy to keep track of unlike the first two books and had witty, humorous lines that made me chuckle.

“No, not you two. Stay here."
"Does he just not get how unfair and sexist that is?" Eve asked. "Men."
"You really want to go first?"
"Of course no. But I'd like the chance to refuse to go first.”
