I read this book to my horse-crazy daughter and my son in preparation for our summer vacation to Chincoteague Island! While we are there, my children will get to ride a Chincoteague Pony, visit the Beebe Ranch, see the lighthouse talked about in the book, and see the Misty statue downtown. They are excited and so am I - I love especially too that they are prepared for the visit with the reading of the book AND seeing the movie! My only complaint about the book is that the language of the Grandma and Grandpa Beebe is written in venacular and makes it hard to read to young children - I had to correct it or my children would never have understood it.
