bookshelves: 2010, didnt-finish-no-apologies

Finished the first 130 pages. The first few reference pages were the smartest/funniest start to a book I've ever read. But after starting the actually story I now realize those pages of 'Genius' were just self-agrandizing b.s.

The story itself started smoothly enough through the death of his parents. But now it has become. so. fing. slowww. The detailed writing of everyday minutae (sp?) is interesting - on a couple occasions I thought, "Wow! Eggers captured it perfectly." But otherwise it was a boring read. So boring and stagnant in fact, I had to check GR and see what others were saying. I should have checked GR to begin with. Apparently the tempo never picks up. I'm quiting while I'm ahead.

David Katzman Heartbreaking work of staggering bullshit?

Brian Wade Pretty much. 'What Is The What' is sitting on my shelf right now. Have heard/read good things about it. I'll give Eggers one more chance but am hesitant after HWOSBS.
