In a small Colorado town, the coroner's daughter starts working as her father's assistant, but a murder case strikes unexpectedly close to home. This forensic mystery wants to be Veronica Mars meets CSI; the combination doesn't quite work, mostly because of the trite characterization and uninspired prose. What makes Veronica Mars work is the title character's hard-won edge; the protagonist here lacks that grit, and it makes all the difference.
