The plot of Warbreaker moves much too slowly with not much happening until the very last few pages. This doesn't necessarily mean it's boring, because Sanderson does keep a very steady pace with his storytelling, but there also didn't appear to be any urgency to his story either. Even the villians came off half heartedly written. This simply was not Elantris, Mistborn or Gathering Storm. Many of the characters simply don't have much to do, which was not something I was expecting from a Sanderson novel. There were bits that I found interesting enough to keep me reading like Siri's interaction with the God King and Vivenna's descent into poverty, but nothing was so compelling that I had to keep reading into the night. This really didn't come off as a book Sanderson had to write. Warbreaker seems very derivative of his past works, but was completely missing the crucial elements which made those books so popular. I would have thought that if he didn't want to do an Elantris or Mistborn sequel that whatever he was going try next would be a big enough departure to justify a completely new novel, but Warbreaker wasn't it.
