The first disappointing Alan Moore book I've read. Moore goes completely off the map with his text inserts in this collage-style book within a book. It echoes the style of "Behind the Mask" from Watchmen, but with less interest. The inserts attempt narrative changes and parodies of classic English literature, but they only serve as long distractions from a primary narrative that isn't very compelling. I think it could have been served by a stronger editorial hand, but given Moore's overall work I'm willing to forgive him a few indulgences in hearing his own voice.
