** spoiler alert ** This was a really hard book for me to read and I'm not quite sure I should finish the series. I'm not on the same moral level as the heroine, Riley Jensen. I'm not even sure I am on the same page as the creator of the "Guardian" world, Keri Arthur. Her ideas are magnificent and I really like that Riley is strong, independent, and courageous; but this latest book had me feeling uncomfortable and at times, disgusted. Riley doesn't seem like she will get her happy ever after any time soon. I get that not all characters will and the urban fantasy world can be tough, but this character deserves some kind of happiness!

There is a lot of action-packed violence, unnecessary sex scenes, and even rape. I'm not sure how comfortable readers will be with this. I wasn't too comfortable, but I kept on reading because I wanted Riley to get the bad guy!! At the same time though, I often questioned Riley's morals. I understood she is a werewolf/vamp with certain "needs", but I did not feel she treated her body with the respect that it deserved (on several occasions!). This book read very "dark" for me. The villain, Darren Starr, used his power for evil and he did not value life very much. He created life for his expense and has a total disregard for it. He also was the one who kidnapped Riley in Book 2 and did all kinds of horrible things to her (hence her revenge) and several others. I felt the ending was rather abrupt and more should have been done. The villain got the easy way out!

Ms. Arthur does have talent in her writing because as each chapter ended, I wanted to find out more...it was a "cliffhanger" experience for me throughout the entire book. I only wish she did not blow certain things out of proportion and she gave her main character more respect for herself. With all of this being said, I think I'll take a break from this series and read something lighter with a little more happiness. When I'm ready to go back to the dark place, maybe I'll check out this series again!
