really liked it
bookshelves: horror, romance
Read from June 26 to July 16, 2010

Quite cleverly written, though you can tell that this is Mr. Browne's first novel. He falls back on a lot of the same funny phrases and jokes to steal the laugh, when in reality, there are a great number of darkly hilarious situations that he delivers uniquely and with much wit. So the repeated jabs for a chuckle get a bit tiresome because they just aren't needed.

That said, Mr. Browne has great potential, and I would be interested in reading whatever he publishes next.

CONTENT WARNING: I do warn sensitive readers that there are two chapters and a smattering of lines in this book that come within spitting distance of soft porn. There's a bit of profanity as well, but it is of the sort that makes sense...if that makes sense.

OVERALL: If you're interested in dark humor and zombies, Breathers is an absolute must-read. Lots of laugh-out-loud moments that will leave you looking around and wondering why in the world you found that funny.
