Not a diet book--which is why I read it. Instead, it's an amazingly well-written overview of obesity research, and how even though all solid evidence points to the fact that a) weight is mostly genetic, like height; b) no scientific study has ever been able to find a diet that actually works long-term; c) average weight in a culture increases along with life span and overall heath; and d) increased health and longevity are actually correlated with being slightly overweight, culturally we still believe that weightloss is a matter of willpower and being fat is a moral failing. Kolata eloquently calls bullshit on all that. Science writing at it's best.
Also, the cover is beautiful and delicious.
