I'm giving this 3 stars based on the first 2 books of this trilogy. What I usually like about Nora Roberts' books are that her characters are very likeable. Great way to escape reality for a quick read. However, in Born in Shame the author does not take the time to develop the characters sufficiently. Shannon has a journey of self-discovery that is way too condensed. Even worse is her portrayal of Murphy. He is a very steady character in the first 2 books of this trilogy but as the main love interest in this last book the author tries to make him very complex and only accomplishes making him seem over-the-edge most of the time. His moods swing back and forth like a rubber ball, rather than carefully revealing the depth of his character. It was a disappointment. What I liked about this book was the continuing story of Maggie/Rogan and Brianna/Gray.
