In the beginning I thought I'd like this book, but things went sour. Even a visit to the real-life house where the book is set didn't revive my interest. This is book #2 on my list of sorry Civil War books focusing on Tennessee, Winston Groom's Shrouds of Glory having been the first to make the list. Note to self: No more Civil War books with "death words" in the title--shroud, widow, coffin, corpse, etc.
