I guess "like" is not a way I'd describe my feelings for this book, but I will say that I learned a great deal and was deeply moved by these collected memories of former slaves. Some of the stories are heartbreaking and difficult to read; however, this is a part of OUR history as Americans and deserves to be known and respected. I'm putting this slim book on my freshman honors reading list (as an option), and feel it is suitable for older teens. It would be a good companion, I think, with Octavia Butler's Kindred or Harriet Beecher Stowe's Uncle Tom's Cabin.
