it was amazing
bookshelves: non-fiction, history

The best one volume account of the Civil War. McPherson, a Princeton historian and distinguished professor, has crafted a scholarly work worthy of the Pulitzer. His writing is lucid, pointed, and persuasive. As with many academic works, readability can suffer when academics write specifically for the academy. However, McPherson's style is highly readable, which is unusual for academic history.

Recommended for the general reader as well as history buffs and Civil War specialists.
