A good book that ended up being very relevant at the end of the year when the oil spill in the Gulf began. The book seemed a little slow at first and it was hard to hold student interest, but once the action began to pick up, they were hooked. When the spill in the Gulf happened, they would mention the Floriday Keys often, and while it is a horrible thing, it was a great connection they were able to make.
Students had a difficult time connecting with Noah and the other characters, but those that enjoy fishing and being outdoors did like him. They thought his sister, however, was hysterical.
At the end of the book, students created a research project based on some environmental project, which tied into their science unit at the time.
