YA Science Fiction book, takes place in what seems to be a society based on Iceland (judging by the names of the characters) - though they live in "New Earth". This society is highly developed in technology yet demands manual labor from the more poverty-stricken. Members of this society regularly travel into the world of Epic, a video game that has become the society's legal and economic system, used mainly to subvert any feelings of aggression (as violence is not allowed except in Epic). Your status in society pretty much depends on how well you play Epic: how many "bezants" you collect, how strong your character is, etc.

Definitely kept me entertained throughout the novel. I really liked the characters, though I felt they were a little young to be trying to change so much of the world (especially its entire economic and legal system). But otherwise, they had very developed (and distinct) personalities.
The plot was interesting, all though somewhat cliche. Oppressing society, characters trying to change it...
Also, the concept of Epic was very well designed, I thought. Epic, more than even the plot or characters, was what kept me turning pages. If you have at some point had the desire to be fully emerged in a video game, not through a controller and a television screen, but actually immersed, so that it feels as though you are actually in the game, then this book will definitely intrigue you.

I'd give it 4 stars out of 5.
