Seuss, Dr. The Cat in the Hat. New York: Random House, 1957. Print.
The Cat in the Hat is the story of two younger children, Sally and her brother (her brother being the narrator who never tells his name), and a Cat in a hat. The two children are staying home one rainy day wondering what they possibly do, when a cat in a hat comes to their door and offers them ‘Lots of good fun.’ From the second the cat is in the house he causes a storm of disaster with his friend’s thing one and thing two. Now the kids have to deal with the mess he has left before Momma gets home.
The Cat in the Hat has become a classic that every American child has read. My current copy is the original that I found my love for reading from as a four year old. It is rhythmic and creative. It helps the children make a picture in the mind with its vague picture and big text. It will go down as an important tool in children’s education.
