Josie and Jack by Kelly Braffet is reminiscent of a car accident. You don't want to stare. You don't want to keep looking back, but somehow you can't help yourself. Josie and Jack are siblings. The usually fend for themselves living in an old house on a hill. Jack takes care of Josie. However, his methods leave a lot to be desired. The two are frequently high and drunk.

Their mother is dead and their father is a professor at a university. He is home only over vacations. When he is home, he is abusive. This abuse eventually drives the two to leave home.

The plot twists and turns and surprises. While the concept of the story is interesting, I believe it falls a bit flat. I was expecting more and Braffet rarely delivered. When she did, the surprises were over the top.

Vicki G At least her medical information managed to stay out of the medical mangling machine that most modern, and even some old-fashioned, authors put it through.
As a paramedic, I really wish authors would ask the RIGHT people-not all doctors understand Emergency Medicine-as to how you treat emergency medical conditions. Most books show trauma or medical emergencies, so the author should ask an Emergency Physician, or at least a doctor who's familiar w/ that area, instead of asking any doctor.
And for ambulance run scenes, I believe paramedics, EMTs and trauma nurses are the best people to get the information from.
I'm tired of treating patients who read Stephen King's mangled medical information then tell me I'm the one who's misinformed when I say it's errant.
Mangled medical information is a little pet peeve of mine.
Kelly Braffet asked the RIGHT doctor about the ferret bite and resulting infection, and that makes me happy.
