I really liked Rules of Survival, so I was looking forward to this new book from Werlin. It's pretty unusual -- a fantasy story with "Scarborough Fair" as a theme song.

Lucy's mother abandoned her when she was small. Miranda is homeless and mentally ill, but she loves Lucy and shows up now and then, always singing a personalized version of the song. When the teenaged Lucy reads Miranda's diary, she discovers that the women in her family are "cursed" -- they all get pregnant at 16 and go insane at 18.

While the writing is Werlin's usual quality, I honestly found the story slow and not very captivating. I didn't really care, and actually found the plot too predictable for my taste.
