Pride and Prejudice
by Jane Austen, Anna Quindlen
by Jane Austen, Anna Quindlen
What's to say about this book than has already been said. On that note upon my re-reading of this book i found that i liked it better the second time around than the first. Lizzie grew on me and i liked her more and more. She's now in a three way tie with Emma and Anne Eliot as my favorite heroines in Jane Austen. Darcy though still seems like an emotionless prick. I like how he's portrayed in the movies better. I'm not even going to go there on Lydia and Mrs. Bennet. Lydia seems like the 19th century Paris Hilton and Mrs. Bennet reminded me too much of some of my own relatives. Ones i always try to find an excuse to avoid.

“A lady's imagination is very rapid; it jumps from admiration to love, from love to matrimony in a moment.”

“I declare after all there is no enjoyment like reading! How much sooner one tires of any thing than of a book! -- When I have a house of my own, I shall be miserable if I have not an excellent library.”

“There are few people whom I really love, and still fewer of whom I think well. The more I see of the world, the more am I dissatisfied with it; and every day confirms my belief of the inconsistency of all human characters, and of the little dependence that can be placed on the appearance of merit or sense.”

HA!!! I love that: "Lydia seems like the 19th century Paris Hilton ..." - too true!! You've made me want to reread this book for what must be the millionth time. I always preferred Sense and Sensibility to Emma

AgentScully wrote: "Emma gets on my nerves :-)"I think Jane Austen was correct when she said that Emma was a character that only she could like. Meaning Emma's not making many friends. ^^
Melissa wrote: "I'm the opposite. Marianne has always gotten on my nerves. "Marianne was annoying, though THE MOST ANNOYING Austen heroine is definitely, by far, Fanny Price (IMHO).
