Somewhere in the middle of reading this book, I thought, Man, I'm really glad I own a copy of this. It's the kind of book I want to mark up, mine for quotations, keep around forever. Maybe it's just the time of my life: I was impressed, not amazed, by A Boy's Own Story, but I think I saw in that book White's capacity to amaze me. This book fulfilled that prediction.

Oh and BTW it's one of the sexiest books I've ever read. So if you like getting turned on, you should read this, perhaps not on a crowded airplane.
