I had been sent this as a reader's copy many months (years?) ago and only finally got around to picking it out of my own personal slush pile because Nancy Pickard's latest book, The Scent of Rain and Lightning, was getting such great reviews.

I think the plot just never turned me on. Too much like other books I have read/read about.

And when I finally got around to reading it, it was.

It just never took off for me. I didn't find the characters particularly engaging and that is what would have been needed to give it better than two stars.
