I've loved Brian Andreas for years, but never owned one of his books until this past summer, when someone very special gifted the old roomies and me with a book of his stuff. I took it with me when I left the house (it was selfish and I know it). If you've never read Brian Andreas, it's a singular and wholly fulfilling experience that I can't describe.

Inscription: "The voices in my head said this belonged in the House of Hot. I listen to the voices. -Hedgie"

A couple favorites:

"When we lived in the city we used to leave the lights on to keep away the burglars. Now we leave the lights off to keep away the neighbors. My mom says it's because there's always a chance we'll like the burglars."

"They came to sit
and dangle their
feet off the edge
of the world

and after awhile
they forgot
everything but
the good and true
things they would
do someday."

"It was a summer's night and the smell of the old rose bush was heavy as rain and she asked me in

and I followed her up those stairs till morning."
