really liked it
Read from June 18 to 26, 2010 — I own a copy , read count: 1

Absorbing account of the blight that ravaged the American Chestnut tree. Documenting the several attempts to bring back the tree, one by back-crossing it with a blight resistant Chinese Chestnut and another by trying to biologically alter the Blight organism. The book was published in 2006, so I'm not sure what the current prognosis is.

I became interested in this tree from reading 'A Prodigal Summer' by Barbara Kingsolver. One of the threads of the story is about an old-timer who is trying to grow blight resistant Chestnut trees.
