I have very mixed feelings about this book. I'm not a huge short story fan, and I am entirely enamored of the story of Philippe Petit and Man on Wire. Thus, expecting a novel about the latter and finding the former threw me.

This is one of those "the writing's good" books. I found myself skipping back and forth to chase various story lines. It's not ultimately a happy book, but an interesting look at a slice in time.

I really liked the storyline of the mothers of the soldiers in Vietnam, but it was oh, so sad, both as a mother of a young man and the wife of a Vietnam vet.
