** spoiler alert ** The Maze by Catherine Coulter is the book when Dillon and Sherlock meet. It's one of my favorite books and on my reread shelf. This book, Whiplash, reminded me of it; however, it lacked something. It still had the banter that I find fun in Coulter's FBI Thrillers. The storylines involving the FBI were good, but I figured out who the killer was quite a bit too early. My other problem was that it seemed like Coulter had tried to put supernatural aspects and a cliffhanger into Whiplash because they are popular, but they aren't her style of writing so they were forced. Instead of using Max/Maxine to solve crimes, Dillon used his ability to speak to the dead. Sherlock was a complete idiot and got herself caught by the bad guys (twice no less). The new love interests in the book didn't fall into line as Coulter's characters usually do. The cliffhanger involving them made me respond "Oh, well" instead of the "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO..." cliffhangers of the Fever series. This is my longest review so I guess I'm a little annoyed or disappointed with this book.
