I absolutely loved "Heart-Shaped Box." I went to the library a few days ago and picked this up to see if it was just as good. I finished reading it today. I couldn't for the life of me put it down. I'm not surprised at all with how well-written and thrilling these stories were.

One point I'd like to make, is that I didn't get a "horror" vibe from any of the pieces. Some where a little disturbing/brutal, (make your stomach turn in tangles, sort of stories.) Such as "The Black Phone", "Best New Horror" or "In The Rundown." Others were heartwarming and a little humorous. Like "Pop Art" and "Better Than Home."

I did, however, notice a certain style of tone, voice and meaning that all of the stories shared together. Themes of regret, belonging, bonding relationships and the supernatural all played a roll in this collection.

If you're looking for a vibrant and obscure collection of short stories, this book definitely delivers. Joe Hill brings a fresh face to horror and suspense. He doesn't disappoint.
