Volume 7 of the Walking Dead picks up where the last one left off, with the survivors back at the prison, ultimately preparing for an attack by the Woodbury survivors. I stated in the last review that this volume needed to show a little more sophistication to keep the series on track.

Fortunately, this is exactly what happens. The name of this book is incredibly fitting to the situation that the survivors find themselves in. They know that the events are a calm before the storm, and the exchanges between them show remarkably solid script writing and character development. There are moments of action in this book, but the exchanges between the characters are the real triumph, with the series certainly showing that it has sophistication and character development to go with the gore and terror. And on that point, there is also a veil of tension over this entire episode, which keeps the reader involved with the characters.

The ending may be predictable, but what came before it sets it up perfectly, and has left me clambering for the next volume.
