I've always heard about this book and finally got to listen to it. It's set almost 100 years ago and it's amazing how much I can relate to Francie Nolan as a lover of books in her childhood and as an independent girl at such an early age. So many things we take for granted today, she struggled for on a daily basis. I read a report today that the "millinial" generation of kids today are the most schedule-driven ever; this book documents a stark contrast where at 6 years old, Francie had to take care of herself and he younger brother so the family could get by. I loved watching Francie grow into a woman and experiencing those moments of truth and wonder along side her.
