Well, I tried. Got to page 195, had to return it to the library, couldn't renew. REALLLY s-l-o-w going, which was disappointing, since the premise was fantastic - a fog/mist descends over most of North America (and the surrounding ocean), killing all humans/large mammals/maybe every living creature, we can't tell because if you touch the fog, you go up in flames. Told from the points of view of Americans around the world, whose home base is now totally GONE. Set on the eve of the Iraq war in 2003, which adds some different twists. And book 2 just came out, so I really need to read this one first.
I'll put it back on hold, and try again. The writing is not that great, the characterizations pretty wooden, but I want to see where Birmingham is going with this, and what caused the fog (if we ever find out!).
