This book has three short stories, each starring a hero who’s in the military. Each story is entertaining enough, but Shalvis’ is my favourite.

I have to give this five stars for the Jill Shalvis story! I’ve never been disappointed by Shalvis yet, and in Friendly Fire she’s managed to create a complex, sexy and fun romance with an interesting hero and heroine in the space of only eight chapters.
Cord returns home to recover from bad injuries, and finds his friend, Lexi, in his shower. There’s already something between the two of them, and the shower incident marks the beginning of a very different kind of relationship. Cord is damaged, and Lexi figures out a plan to fix him and get him living again.
There’s always plenty of humour in with the big emotions in Shalvis’ writing, and this nice little story was the best of the bunch.

The Prodigal was a nice, quick romance, but not quite on the same level as the one before it. The military aspect seemed a little irrelevant here - it was a story about a man finding out too late that his father loved him, and that man falling in love with a woman who knew his father to be a very different man. I didn’t mind this one, but it wasn’t the strongest story of the three.

Packing Heat was a good read - very steamy. It read a bit like two separate stories, with the steamy parts not quite matching the rest of the story. Matt and Megan ‘meet’ through long distance communication when Matt is fighting in Iraq. By the time they meet face to face they’ve known each other for six months. What I didn’t like that so much of the drama was centred around the couple not communicating and so misunderstanding a situation. I liked that they had a reason to jump straight into their relationship - there isn’t a lot of time for ‘getting to know you’ in such a short story!

This book was a nice, fast read. Steamy romance, sexy military heroes and three happy endings.
