It is based off of a true story, so I guess in that I can't criticize the plot too much. I do plan to eventually research the actual people, Duchess Jane Maxwell Gordon, Duke Alexander Gordon and Thomas Fraser.

I will say... the highly anticipated ending, and I say, highly, was maddeningly disappointing. As was the agony of most of the novel... but I probably cannot blame that on the author.

But in the end.... I don't think I can recommend this book on it's romantic merits. I think for historical value, if you're interested in history, then by all means! But if cheating spouses are of no interest, you should probably take a step very far away from this book.
