A recommendation from demoncatch, I'd had The Stupidest Angel: A Heartwarming Tale of Christmas Terror on hold at the library since early December; I finally had my turn last week.

Young Josh Barker sees Lena Marquez take out Santa Claus (in reality, her ex-husband, accidentally killed with a shovel). Tucker Case, a DEA pilot with a pet fruitbat who wears Ray-Bans*, helps her with an alibi. Meanwhile, ex-stoner (and town constable) Theo Crowe has a "Gift of the Magi" thing going on with his girlfriend, a former B-movie actress with a tenuous hold on reality when she's off her meds. Josh's wish to have Santa alive again & everything be the way it used to be is overheard by the titular angel, Raziel... whose duty to perform a Christmas miracle goes horribly wrong.

This novel hearkens back to Moore's earlier work - not only is it set in Pine Cove, with some recurring characters - the feel is similar. He doesn't really have any serious point to make, as in Lamb or ...more
