This was an engaging read set in North Carolina in the small town of Bascom, where families are old and come with their own set of expectations and rules. The Waverley family, for example, grows a garden which grows wonderful magical herbs and fruits that effect the partakers in physical ways. The book unfolds the very different lives of the two Waverley sisters Claire and Sydney, along with a host of other memorable town characters. It was an easy read, very engaging and enjoyable.
