The Sea of Monsters was an amazing sequel to The Lightning Thief. In the beginning Percy goes back to Camp Half-blood and is miserable. He’s being teased about having a Cyclops brother and the new camp director is nothing but trouble. Then he and Annabeth determine a way to save the camp and then present it at dinner. The camp director thought it was great, unfortunately he granted permission for someone else to go on the quest and not Percy. But that didn’t stop him from sneaking out with his friends. He battled many monsters and overcame many obstacles and near death experiences. When I was first reading the book I was afraid that it would be a let down because sequels aren’t always great compared to the first. But in this book there was everything that it needed--drama, intensity, adventure, and surprises. I could barely even put it down!! There was such a great twist at the end, too! It wasn’t predictable, I was very surprised. Before I was finished with the book I was looking forward to reading the third book and I still can’t.
