I've been reading through this collection again with my 318 class, and, I have to say, I don't like it as much as I remember. There some incredible pieces and some incredible lines, but I can't help feeling that it's getting repetitive. It does provide for great class discussion, though, so it's serving it's purpose.
ADDED:
My students liked the collection, overall, though many, like me, felt a little overwhelmed by Moore by the end. It's a lot. I admire Lorrie Moore and many of my students were really inspired by her, but she's never an author who I want to immediately run out and read more of.
This collection is home to arguably one of the best--if not the best--opening line ever: "Understand that your cat is a whore and cannot help you."
