I almost gave up on this book. It started out so well then seemed to simply get Boring in the middle; I almost just skipped ahead to the end to read the final scene. I'm so glad I didn't--the last few chapters bowled me over in such a quiet, unnerving way; I never would have felt the impact of the ending had I cheated. This bittersweet, real slice of life book does move slowly at times with very little happening, but isn't that what life is like? What familial love is like? Things start out so promising and hopeful; with the passage of time we become vulnerable to the vagaries of life and love. This book shows just how much grace there is in small moments.
