really liked it
bookshelves: fantasy

The shortest of the three books, the Return of the King is the mostly happy conclusion of the saga. Here's what I love about this book: everything is wrapped up. Even if it doesn't happen in the text, there are appendices that wrap things up for you. Want to know if Pippin and Merry ever find love? It's in there. What happens to Saruman? Yup, it's in there. How is order restored to Middle Earth? Etc, etc, etc,. It's a good book for people who like a thorough conclusion.

These are books that I feel you have to read at a certain age. They are an undertaking. They are a bit over written. But the good parts are so good. There's romance and treachery and chase scenes and magic. It's not lighthearted. But it's entertaining.
