245923 I'm also currently reading this, Krista, and have gone so far as Chapter 16. Although it may take me quite a while to finish it (or to finish any book, for that matter, since I read rather slowly and my working hours don't help either), it would be interesting to know what you think about the book.

316102 Hi Dini! I belong to a book discussion group at my local public library called "Connect With the Classics." Emma is the book for this month, and the discussion is tomorrow evening. I haven't even gotten as far into it as you have, so I know I won't have read all of it by tomorrow. If only I didn't have to work...

I took a quick peek into your bookshelves and see that you've read Austen's other books. I've only read Pride and Prejudice and Northanger Abbey, both of which I enjoyed. I didn't expect to like Pride and Prejudice, but I did, very much. I read Northanger Abbey when the BBC movie, which got such terrible reviews, came out.
I enjoyed the book much better than the film, but I don't think it was as well written as Pride and Prejudice.

I think I enjoy these books more for the writing style of that time than for the plots. I hate the way many fiction books today are written with a sex scene in them that has nothing to do with the plot but is there to sell the book. I actually met a woman who lives near me who has published several historical romances, who told me that her publisher insisted that she include a sex scene in her books. She said she couldn't write one, so they hired someone else to write it and insert it into the book. Can you believe it?

It will be fun to discuss this book with you. Thanks for letting me know that you're reading it!

245923 Actually the only Austen I've already read is Northanger Abbey for a book club here at Goodreads. I've also read an abridged version of Pride and Prejudice once but haven't got to read the complete one. The other novels are still sitting nicely in my to-read list.

I agree with you about the writing style, that's one of the things I like about Austen. And I totally agree about the sex scenes... sometimes they just come out of nowhere and leave you thinking, "Um... and what was that for, actually?"

I guess I'll catch up on you later when I've finished Emma, which is God knows when. Ha!
