Bound is such a touching book, it is really heart breaking and unbelievable. This story is similar to that of cinderella's story, only that there are different elements. The Cinderella in this story is a teen named Xing Xing. This book takes place in northern China during the 17th century. Xing Xing was left with her stepmother and stepsister after her father passed away. Ever since Xing Xing's father died Xing Xing has been a servant for her stepmother and stepsister.
At this time in china, marriage was a big deal. It was also a really popular thing to have small feet. Which is why Xing Xing stepsister, Wei Ping had her feet bounded. Xing Xing does everything her stepmother and stepsister tell her to do. Xing Xing cooks and cleans because her stepsister doesnt do much becasuse of her bounded feet and because her stepmother tells her to.
A moment in the story that really impacted me was the moment in which one of Xing Xing decisions leads to a tragic incident. Xing Xing was ordered to kill baby racoons for dinner. Xing Xing killed 2 out of the 3 because she felt guilty.One day Wei Ping started screaming and it turned out that the racoon had bitten Wei Ping's foot.Both Wei Ping and her mother were mad at Xing Xing because she ruined the chance of having Wei Ping marring someone worthy. Xing Xing has no support, the only consolation is her pet fish that always cheers her up when she is not happy.
