I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. I must just really like debut novels for some reason. Love on a Dime is Cara Lynn James’ debut novel and it is fantastic. I enjoyed this book right from the start. I think the main reason I liked it right away was because I can relate with Lilly. She loves her books and she loves her solitude, although I am not a writer, but we still had a lot in common. Lilly was a delightful character whose heart was in the right place.

I also loved the setting. Newport, Rhode Island is one of the places high on my list of places I want to visit. It is the perfect backdrop to this story. I have been fascinated by the time period in which this story takes place since I started reading historical fiction. The high society social scene with all the glamour and fancy balls makes for fun reading. Cara included a lot of detail in her book, which really made the book feel real. I could imagine the people and the places in vivid detail.

Love on a Dime is one of those books I did not want to end. I wanted to savor it as long as possible. It is relaxing, entertaining, and heart-warming. It is the perfect summer read. I highly recommend it and can’t wait to read Cara’s next book.
