Bilbo Baggins life is turned upside-down when Gandalf commissions Bilbo and 12 dwarfs to go on an adventure. The Hobbit tells the story of their adventures as they travel to the dragon’s lair determined to regain Thorin’s rightful treasure and restore order to the society. However, dangers await the travelers at every turn and Bilbo must use all his wits if he is going to guide his followers safely to their destination.

Reading The Hobbit as a graphic novel helped to alleviate some of the pressure and difficulties in reading the novel itself. For example, the illustrations helped to make up for some of the lengthy descriptions found in the text. Readers are also better able to grasp how creatures such as Gollum and the giant spiders look like. The text is also paired down so as to be able to fit in text bubbles and boxes, again making the story line easier to understand. I recommend this book to all Tolkien fans, graphic novel lovers, and classic book lovers.
