This book by Darren Shan, is about a boy named Darren who is half human and half vampire. He abandoned his old life as a full human because the only way he could save his friend was by becoming a vampire. Darren now lives in the cirque with a bunch of half-human freakish creatures. Mr. Crepsley and one of the freaks Ezra, tell Darren that they need to leave the cirque. They go to the city where Ezra and Darren find Mr.Crespley. He is always out and never around, but they soon come to find a whole bunch of bodies mysteriously drained of blood. The only conclusion that they can come up with is that Mr. Crepsley had something to do with all of those dead, bloodless bodies. Darren faces many conflicts in his life. Internal Conflict: having to deal with not being the same anymore, missing his old life and resisting those risky vampire urges. His External Conflict: he can't be noticed too much and he has to keep his secret life- a secret (obviously).

I can make a txt-to-txt connection to Breaking Dawn. In the Vampires Assistant, Darren used his vampire skills to save his friend and to find out who is killing people and draining them of all their blood, and in Breaking Dawn, Renesmee (Bella and Edwards half vampire and half human baby) uses her vampire skill (the ability to show people things through their heads) to help Bella and her loved ones, gather up more vampires to help fight off the Volturi. Both Darren and Renesmee used their power to help something that could have otherwise been a tradegy.

I'd rate this book 3 stars, because of two reasons. At some parts of the book it dragged on and stretched out for to long, and it was really cliche. I'd recommend this book to people who like action books, predictable books (honestly) and Darren Shan books.
