For a first in series book this one was great. I tossed up giving it 4 or 5 stars, and finally went with 4 as I know this series will just get better.

Janet Begay, part Navajo, part goddess is a Stormwalker. This book is a mystery and a journey of discovery for Janet, who doesn't know who her mother really is. (Stormwalker power is actually from the Navajo side of the family)

The mystery is where is Amy McGuire; the Police Chief's daughter has disaappeared a year ago and they've exhausted all the usual conventional means of finding her with no luck. Chief McGuire brings in Janet. Amy's fiancé was Nash, the Sherriff who doesn't believe in magic.

Janet decides to relocate to Magellan, the town right on the edge of the desert with all the vortexs, and renovate the abandoned hotel. This was Amy's town.

Mick, Janet's ex-boyfriend shows up to protect her from her Mother, from Nash, from Coyote the God, and from Dragons.

If you want to know any more you'll have to read the book.
