This is another of the Florida SSYRA books for next year's 6th to 8th graders. It is very fast paced, I read it in less than two hours. High schooler Deet's father is working multiple jobs to support his family, so he doesn't see any harm when a co-worker offers him some pills to help him stay awake. However, when a routine traffic stop results in the discovery of methamphetimine in his possession, Deet's father ends up in jail. This book is the story of how Deet cares for his family and learns more about his father during his incarceration. This book is recommended for reluctant readers, there are many topics to discuss here.
