It took me awhile to get into this book. Not sure if it was the time (right before Thanksgiving with all kinds of craziness going on) or the book's jumping right into the middle of the story and a fantasy world without much world building. Either way, it was a slow start, but I'm glad I stuck with it.

There are so many twists, turns, betrayals and secrets in this book that to even attempt a plot summary would be impossible without numerous spoilers. Let's just say that the less you know about this book, the better. It's one of those: so good and perfect to discover on your own.

The world-building is a bit slow, and mostly revealed through creation myths shared around a campfire. I'm still not sold on this device, though it did help fill in Gen's backstory.

If you like series like Tamora Pierce's Song of the Lioness Quartet, or the Bartimaeus books by Anton Strout, you'll like The Thief.
