Sleepless Nights
by Elizabeth Hardwick, Geoffrey O'Brien
by Elizabeth Hardwick, Geoffrey O'Brien
Billed as an autobiographical novel it reads more like a series of short stories. Acutely observed and deftly told these stories reminded me of The Dubliners. I was intrigued by Hardwick's notion of a person being misplaced--she was born in Kentucky, but was at heart a New Yorker. What she provides as a mix of stories from Kentucky and New York whose contrasts make reading this book a special treat.
