At the end of school, teenagers are assigned their positions in life: either they receive a job, or they're permanently unemployed. Life expectancy is low, and there are so many robots to do the work that there isn't enough work to employ everyone.

A group of friends find themselves all unemployed and have to figure out how to get along with government-provided clothes and rations. After they get settled, they find a mysterious invitation at their door to a virtual reality game with seemingly no objective.

I enjoyed this book. It's definitely YA fiction. It has an interesting premise to it.
