What an awesome introduction to a new character!

This book is a collection of short stories ordered sequentially according to the character's calendar (not the order they were published) that occur before the first Hornblower novel, which is book #2.

The first story, Hornblower and the Even Chance, is so badass I can barely handle it. And it's one of several just awesome, awesome story.

I've already finished book #2 and have started book #3. I can heartily recommend Hornblower to anyone looking for some excitement, and especially to those that love naval adventures. It's more fast-paced than the Aubrey/Maturin books, and I'm thoroughly enjoying them so far.
