Being "unstuck in time" has got to be the greatest metaphor for PTSD in all of fiction, and who can ever forget "so it goes" and that eerie last line: "Po tee weet." This anti-war classic is too bleak to be one of my lifetime favorites, but that I remember it so well after 20 years proves just how well done it is.
