The best part about having room mates is being able to borrow their books from the great big bookshelf we all share. This one passed the "first two pages" test and led to my devouring the whole thing in an hour or two (it's short). What a beautiful poet, person, teacher, lover of life Rilke was. In these letters is some of the best advice to any artist in any medium. It's advice that I felt was as renewing, creatively, as water is to the body. Its really much better for you to read this than for me to tell you how rewarded I feel from his ideas on independence and wonder, but I will tell you that, to me, this is a book I know I will enjoy every few years. Do yourself a favor and read at least the first letter.
